  • Bill Gates Told To Stop ‘Inappropriate’ Emails With Employee In 2008, Report Says

In 2008, when Bill Gates was still an employee and Chairman of the Board at Microsoft (MSFT), executives discovered emails sent a year earlier between him and his mid-level female counterpart in which he asked her out on 18 different occasions.
The correspondence spanned from October 2007 to September 2008; it includes requests such as “Would you like to have dinner with me next week?” And “What do think about going for coffee sometime?” The board members were not aware that their esteemed leader had been messaging this woman outside work until they read through old correspondences several months ago.”

But in a meeting with former counsel Brad Smith and then-chief people officer Lisa Brummel, Gates agreed that his behavior was inappropriate. He changed after this conversation where they expressed their concerns about him to inform the board of directors at Microsoft Corporation
In May 1998 when Bill Gates was made aware through an anonymous letter handed over directly by two female engineers working at Microsoft who were either sexually harassed or propositioned for sex acts while on company property during off hours; he took action immediately by having all exterior doors fitted with security locks so only authorized personnel could enter without permission first between 8 am – 5 pm Monday through Friday

Microsoft confirmed the Journal’s report to CNN Business but declined to comment. Microsoft spokesperson Frank Shaw told the Journal that “while flirtatious, [the emails] were not overtly sexual, but were deemed to be inappropriate,” and that the employee never made a complaint about the incident.

A spokeswoman for Gates, Bridgitt Arnold, denied the claims in a written statement to the Journal. “These claims are false, recycled rumors from sources who have no direct knowledge, and in some cases have significant conflicts of interest,” she said. Representatives for Gates’ did not respond to multiple requests for comment from CNN Business.

Gates, the richest man in modern day history and Microsoft’s former CEO until 2000 has been accused of inappropriate workplace behavior. He left his post as Chairman last year to focus on philanthropy but there are other claims that surfaced this past January which accuse him for harassing women at work place while employed by them during different points throughout time periods where Gates worked together with various companies including IBM or was involved heavily within early stages invested himself into tech startups like Sun Microsystems developing Java programming language so it can be run across any multiprocessor machines made out against.

“Microsoft received a concern in the latter half of 2019 that Bill Gates sought to initiate an intimate relationship with a company employee in the year 2000,” a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to CNN Business in May. “A committee of the Board reviewed the concern, aided by an outside law firm, to conduct a thorough investigation. Throughout the investigation, Microsoft provided extensive support to the employee who raised the concern.”

A spokesperson for Gates called the 2000 relationship “an affair almost 20 years ago which ended amicably,” in a statement to the Journal at the time and said the company’s investigation was unrelated to Gates’ decision to leave the board.
